● Motivational interviewing (MI) uses the OARS technique (Open-ended questions, Affirmations, Reflective listening, and Summaries) as its core communication skills.

● It allows practitioners to effectively engage clients, build rapport, and elicit their own motivation for change, rather than imposing solutions, by encouraging them to explore their thoughts and feelings around a desired behavior change, ultimately empowering them to take ownership of their decisions.
